Waar het ene horlogemerk zich richt op functionaliteit en innovatie, is dat bij een ander van minder belang en ligt de nadruk op andere punten. En waar kan een modemerk als Guess zich nu beter op richten dan op mode, stijl en het verpersoonlijken van daarvan? Buiten de kleding en tassen is de horlogemarkt een belangrijke lijn binnen de accessoiremarkt. Een overzicht van het Guess horloge.

Geschiedenis

Guess is opgericht door twee Franse broers die zich vestigden in de Verenigde Staten in 1983 en de naam Guess opbouwden. In eerste instantie richtten zij zich op de jeans markt en niet lang daarna werd het eerste Guess horloge gelanceerd, gelijk een complete eerste lijn met verschillende modellen: Guess Steel, Guess en de Guess Collection, die tot op heden nog bestaan. De horloges waren lange tijd weliswaar belangrijk maar bleven steken in het middensegment van het merk, maar daar kwam na twintig jaar verandering in.

Horloges

In 2004, toen het Guess horloge zijn twintigjarige jubileum werd gevierd, werd besloten deze lijn van accessoires opnieuw tot leven te brengen en daarmee het hogere segment aan te spreken. Dat segment kenmerkt zich door horloges in goud en silver en/of door wijzerplaten omringt door kristallen. Er zijn door de bank genomen tweehonderd Guess horloge modellen waarvan ongeveer zestig procent (60%) dameshorloges. Die varieren onderling in model, kleur en stijl en worden gezien als onmisbaar onderdeel van een outfit. De verscheidenheid in alleen al de kleuren van de horlogebandjes betekent dat voor een stijlliefhebber slechts één horloge nooit genoeg kan zijn.

Functionaliteit

Zoals gezegd, de functionaliteit van de Guess horloges ligt hem voornamelijk op het stijlvlak. Het merk is daarin koploper en omschrijft zijn klokjes lopend van trendy en casual tot sophisticated en chic. Buiten dat ze stijlvol zijn en de tijd bijhouden hebben de horloges afhankelijk van het model een uitgebreid pakket aan functies. Een van de laatste modellen de Guess Connect biedt bijvoorbeeld de volgende mogelijkheden.
Tijd, datum en waterbestendige wijzerplaat en horlogeband. Het heeft een chronograaf en stopwatch maar heeft anders dan andere merken geen stappen teller. De telefoon kan via Bluetooth verbonden worden aan je horloge waardoor zodra je een berichtje krijgt via een van de meest gebruikte apps, zoals whatsapp, facebook, twitter of je emailaccount, je via een berichtje of geluid daarvan op de hoogte bent. Gedeeltes van het bericht kun je lezen op je wijzerplaat. Mocht je je telefoon niet direct kunnen traceren dan is er de ‘find phone’ functie die je helpt door je telefoon te laten piepen terwijl jij zoekt. Volgens kenners is het slimme horloge van Guess relatief groot en zwaar en zijn niet alle functies even goed ontwikkeld, zo ‘ziet’ het horloge niet als je hem niet draagt terwijl andere merken dat wel doen, en hetzelfde geld voor het gemis van een wifi-functie. Zolang je telefoon en horloge dicht genoeg bij elkaar in de buurt houdt werken ze samen, maar niet als ze niet in de buurt van Bluetooth zijn. Dat zal echter geen nadeel vormen voor de echte horloge-liefhebber, die liever een prachtig analoog sieraad koopt.
